The Interior Design Consultation & What to Expect
Why is there a fee?
This is a fair question, with a simple answer.
Time = money, and I pack a lot of value into every home consultation.
Whether you decide to work with me or not, you'll come away from the home consult with a wealth of valuable information that you can do with as you choose. My business is based on giving you the tools you need to feel empowered making changes in your home. In our consult, I'll walk you through possible next steps and give you the knowledge, direction and confidence you need to get started.
So what to Expect.
Take me on a tour!
I want to see and know it all – the things you think are relevant AND the ramblings that you think aren’t. I want to know your design dilemmas, your vision, your fears and phobias… go ahead, you can even hit me with the dirty secrets you have hidden away in your closets.
This is a time for me to get to know your home and also for us to get to know one another. Once we’ve toured and talked, I’ll help identify any major themes, focus areas or problem spots and we’ll discuss possible next steps.
For some projects, this time together will be enough (at least for now)!
You’ll go on your merry way with your newfound knowledge and inspiration, moving forward with your project – because that’s all you needed! Someone to help you get unstuck.
For others, the Home Consultation is just the beginning of our conceptual process.
Space planning (layout), the addition of millwork and other architectural elements, furnishings, lighting, art and kitchen & bath design are just a few of the services that I can help walk you through.
When the consultation is finished, we’ll talk about what to expect following our meeting and make a plan to move forward. Our time together during the Home Consult is short but action-packed. Don’t worry – if something pops into your head after I’ve left, you’ll always have an open invite to ask more questions.
What not to Expect
A finished product.
We’ll talk a lot about general concepts, styles and finishes that I think will work in your space, but we won’t be doing any physical work during the Home Consult. Think of it as one big brainstorm session – a time to ideate and plan so that we can be as efficient as possible when we get down to work later. Design is a process, and it takes time and consideration to do it right.
If you want to get down to the dirty work straight away, check out my design package aptly named The HANDS-ON.
Actual selections.
I won’t make any specific selections or provide specific paint color suggestions during a home consultation. I also don’t provide notes, but I do encourage note-taking!
Fee deferrals or discounts.
The consultation fee is stand-alone.
It is not applied as a discount to ongoing work if you should decide to move forward with me. It covers time and travel costs and years of tried and true experience in the professional world of Interior Design.
